Part 5.
With four officers shot Cable Lin was not happy she had faced a real trouble here in her mind. She was following the dark man in to the corridors of the underground system. Her coms devices were choked silent by the buildings and earth, so no easy pick up. Down and down stainless steel moving stairs. She had eye lock on him and kept having knock people left and right to keep up with him. He was able to move as if people glided out of his way, Cable had lost mental calm and felt like the crowds were all moving against her. He was looping himself twice now and then he was going to the northbound line. No eye contact and instinct told her she was invisible still.
Hair had to stay down, the moment of putting it up would draw too many eyes; people followed other people's eyes. Extreme caution, she thought. Cable Lin had been in that office to finish an adultery case. Photos of the man with a hooker she had paid. Ok he had not been unfaithful until drug raped by the hookers but a job was a job; bills to be paid. A little cocktail and a story to the hooker about it being how she got off with the photos and bingo she could live for a month.
There would be a reward and if she had time she could call in to one of her bounty partners and she what the rate was like here. She logged in on a tube call both heading north. It lit up her own desktop checked the news and hot list of wanted people. Nothing; that might be a bad thing. The team that swept the building had had to fight the building, which might be a higher level than she wanted to go. Her gut was telling her to walk on this one. Cables long brown hair was becoming dry and dirty from the stale almost blue air the humidity had produced a line of sweat down her back running a cold line round her bra. Adjusting her stance she logged out of the booth and realised she had been noticed as he smiled.
Cable turned back to the booth and logged in there was a construct of his face. It said; "I think we should have a chat."
